When it comes to faith, everyone will have different views, although there are a few core beliefs that we take as truth and that make us “Christian”. These are detailed below.
These beliefs are not a pre-requisite for being part of Haven and you will never be singled out for having a different view. However, we do ask that everyone is respectful and willing to listen as we challenge and encourage each other.
God
God is the loving Creator of all that exists, both seen and unseen. He is eternal and perfect, knowing all things, having all power. God exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, yet is one God. He passionately desires a relationship with us, and so, He continually invites us into a relationship of faith, friendship, learning, and service.
Jesus Christ
God expressed himself in human form through Jesus Christ, born of the virgin, Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified for the sins of everyone, was buried, rose again from the dead, and ascended to heaven. No-one can come to the father except through him and by his sacrifice.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit, sent from God to live inside all who believe in Jesus Christ, teaches, comforts, and empowers us, giving us diverse gifts, fostering unity, interdependence, creativity, Christ-like character, and love among Christians.
The Bible
The Bible is our standard in all we say and do. We believe the Bible addresses real life, and that God’s unchangeable message ought to be presented in fresh, relevant, and timely ways. We accept it as a trustworthy witness to God’s character and God’s purposes through Jesus Christ.
The Church
Haven is a part of, and an expression of, the worldwide Church, a movement started by Jesus Christ and carried on by those that follow Him. We are brothers and sisters of those in the Church regardless of their denomination or geography. The Church exists to enable the creation of disciples, the worship of God and the declaration of His good news.
Theological position
Where a general theological viewpoint other than that which is covered in the Haven statement of faith is required, this will be discussed as part of a Leadership meeting and decided by the Leadership Team. It is understood that, outside of an official statement by the Chairperson, all statements made by those who are part of Haven are comprised of their own views and beliefs, which may not align completely with the official views of Haven.
